Training Information
Workday is NKU's unified platform for all HR and Finance actions for employees. All faculty, staff, and student employees will complete training for tasks in Workday.

Are you curious to know what systems will be replaced by Workday?  Learn more on the Workday page.
Who will participate in training?
All employees will learn to navigate Workday, update their employee profile, manage time and absence requests as needed, select benefits, view pay and withholding elections, and update performance goals. Additionally, employees may opt into Procurement and Expenses courses as their role requires.​ ​

Managers will learn to complete review and approval of time and absence submissions and hiring processes for Hiring Managers. Managers will also complete Getting Started in Workday training with all other employees. ​ ​

Specific roles including Academic & Department Admins, Business Officers and others will participate in role-based learning tracks for specific HR & Finance tasks. These may include Procurement, Budgets, Grants, and more!

 

What types of training will be offered?

Multiple training formats will be offered including:​

  • Hands-on labs
  • Self-directed resources including user guides and videos
  • Recordings of live sessions​
  • Post go-live office hours
When will training be offered?
Training registration opens in May. Employees will be assigned trainings and may register for Instructor-Led trainings as needed based on their job duties.Select training is self-directed only and will be available in June.

Getting Started in Workday & Time and Absence  for Employees
An overview of basic navigation in Workday, including NKU org charts, Employee Profile, pay info, learning opportunities, and time and absence actions relevant to each learning audience. Est. Time 1 hour
 
Getting Started in Workday & Time and Absence for Managers
An overview of basic Manager actions in Workday, including Time and Absence approvals, Spend Authorization approvals, Learning assignments, and Job Changes.
Note: Time tracking and absence actions in Workday are also applicable to Timekeepers.  Est. Time 1 hour

Benefits
Self-guided instructions to update dependents and beneficiaries and to make Benefits changes due to a life event and instructions.
 
Workshop: Hiring Processes
A hands-on workshop specific to hiring managers with active, open job requisitions only. This workshop overviews the job posting, selection, and hiring processes within Workday and takes Hiring Managers through the process using their own active job req.
 
Talent Profile, Feedback, & Performance Improvement Plans
Self-guided instructions on Talent and Performance actions for employees and managers including Talent Profile, managing goals, and requesting and providing feedback. Includes content for Performance Improvement Plans.

Customer Accounts
A hands-on overview of Customer Accounts processes in Workday ranging from creating customers and customer contracts, to invoicing customers and posting payments.

Grants
An overview of Grant Financial Management in Workday, including award and grant structure and how to view and manage awards and grants.
Note: Content is specific to PIs and Co-PIs.
 
Budgets & Accounting
An overview of the budget process, with a focus on viewing your budget, making budget amendments, and position budget amendments. 

Procure to Pay & Assets
An overview of Procure to Pay processes in Workday, from supplier requests and purchase requisitions, to purchase orders and supplier invoices. Includes all types of requisitions and assets.
 
Spend Authorizations & Expenses
A hands-on overview of Spend Authorizations and Expense Reports in Workday.

Projects
An overview of Projects functionality in Workday including how to view and edit projects and view and approve billable transactions for Project Managers and faculty receiving project funds.
